Pilotage is compulsory for all vessels, irrespective of size, operating in ADPC port waters.  The Pilotage Directions are the means by which ADPC grants exemption from pilotage where it is appropriate to do so without significant impact on port safety.  Such exemption may be granted by virtue of vessel size or, subject to condition, through the issue of a pilotage exemption certificate to suitably qualified masters.
